Sen. Isakson helps Roswell to apply for more stimulus money.

Holding a reverse "Tea Party" of sorts, Roswell's elected officials held a series of closed-door meetings (with no more than three council members present, which is required by law to avoid a quorum) with Sen. Johnny Isakson (R) and Rep. Tom Price (R) to discuss ways they could get a bigger slice of the Federal government's stimulus money.

"Johnny and Tom advised us to be very aggressive in our approach to secure more funding," said Roswell Councilwoman Lori Henry. "They indicated that President Obama was adamant in getting more of the money flowing in the next 180 days so the stimulus package could be perceived as making an impact in local markets." Henry took the position that the "money is flowing somewhere so it might as well flow here." According to others, Price counseled them to prioritize their shovel ready projects that could be started immediately.

NEXT STEPS TO GET SOME OF THE CASH

Henry said that Roswell grants manager Danny Blitch would be working on the application process. "Roswell is fortunate to have many transportation projects that are ready to go. The planning is done and funding is the only missing ingredient. This sets us up to get a bigger slice of the stimulus pie," Henry theorized. Officials agreed that Glitch is out in front of the process. "I am optimistic we will get more money from the stimulus package based on the counsel we got today," Henry said.
